LODGING & RETREAT

Photography by Kelly Clampitt

There are no canoes here at Spirit Canoe Lodge (LOL), although you can rent some nearby to paddle the New River, ironically the second oldest river in the world!   Spirit Canoe refers to the inner journey of one's soul and connection to Spirit.  At Spirit Canoe Lodge you can simply rent a bed or room and enjoy a quiet moment as you travel through the mountains.  You can also join us for a scheduled event.  Tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Ashe County, North Carolina, and located on a 50-acre private holler, this large log cabin features hardwood floors, an opened beam ceiling, access to a full community kitchen, a 60-foot deck with rocking chairs and views of Three Top Mountain,  4 private rooms, open sleeping for up to 12.  Camping on the land is also an option.  Hiking is just out the back door and there are many local hiking trails within a 30-50 minute drive:  Grayson Highlands, Elk Knob, Snake Mountain, Mount Rogers, Three Top Mountain, Bluff Mountain Preserve (permission needed).  Trail-Biking is great on the nearby VA Creeper Trail.  The quaint town of West Jefferson is 15 minutes away and boasts many local art galleries, a brewery, a cheese factory, antique malls, and several lovely places to eat.  The Seasons...Fall can be spectacular for mountain color which often peaks mid-October.  Winter, the cabin is a cozy place to hideaway and is heated with a wood burning water stove that provides radiant heat through the entire house.    Spring, April and May, enjoy the forests waking up with native flowers and morels!   Summer, enjoy greens from the garden, the local Saturday Farmer's Market, and pick blueberries right outside the back door!  Stay one night or plan an extended stay.  Our guests usually feel like one of a family by the time they leave.  Please contact Kelly at kelly@spiritcanoelodge.org or visit us on www.airbnb.com to book your next visit.

TESTIMONIALS

"The weekend was an adventure from beginning to end, something different every minute, surprise after surprise. Her home has everything...surrounded by wooded mountains."

~Stuart

"My husband and I needed an escape from the hustle and bustle of our every day lives, and Kelly's home was the perfect place for that.  The room was just as pictured and described and Kelly and (her friend) were very welcoming.  we enjoyed the beautiful view from the French doors in our room and the bed was comfortable.  The bathroom right across the hall was beautiful and everything was clean and cozy.  Kelly's cat, Fiona, was very friendly also.  We received information about the area from Kelly, as far as dining and directions, however she mostly let us have our privacy.  She was available, but not intrusive.  We also enjoyed Kelly's beautiful photography throughout the home.  These accommodations for the money were a great deal."

"My girlfriend and I stayed for one night at Kelly's home, but I really wish it could have been much longer.  The room was perfect, especially with the porch swing just outside the door.  We spent the evening just watching the brilliant stars sparkling in the night sky.  The trees were just starting to turn for fall and the view from our windows could not have been better.  The room itself was warm and cozy, just like in the pictures.  Kelly was an excellent host (and photographer, as well. Her wonderful work decorates many of the walls.)  She was friendly and very welcoming.  We already are making plans to come back when we can spend a few more days."

"Kelly was a lovely hostess and her house is like a work of art!  Her bathroom looks like a destination resort spa!  Kelly was great about giving us directions to a wedding we were attending, and invited me to stay for a community retreat she was hosting the next day.  I would definitely recommend her, our first AirBnB experience was wonderful!"

~Adrian

"Kelly has created such a special place and we highly recommend anyone to stay there.  It is a beautiful drive and amazing views from her house.

~Taylor

"Kelly and her home are peaceful, beautiful and welcoming.  Although we only stayed one night, we truly felt that finding this place was a stroke of good fortune, and we can't wait to plan another trip.  The photos do not do justice to how breath-taking and arm the interior of the home is.  And Kelly made every effort to make us feel welcome and to get us there safely.  She even let us pick fresh blueberries!  Fiona the cat is also warm and inviting.  One of our best AirBnB finds ever!"

~Maura

"I've had may fine AirBnB stays over the last several years and this was one of my favorites.  Great host, spectacular location and interesting conversation with Kelly and other guests.  I instantly felt welcomed and at home.  I hope to return soon.

"Kelly's house is a true gem.  Well-kept, very cozy, and amidst a stunning landscape.  Highly recommended."

"Kelly's home was more than a home, it is a living spiritual space.  It made me feel inspired, rejuvenated, peaceful and at home all at once."

"This unique cabin has spiritual vibe and can be used for retreats.  Our room was super comfortable with a private spacious  bathroom.  The pictures do not do this place justice.  Off the beaten path, but convenient to quaint West Jefferson and paddling the New River.  There was fresh coffee every morning which we enjoyed on the front porch swing.  Kelly knows all about the community and is a local artist.  Everybody around seemed to know her!  Her photographs are amazing and sprinkled about the place among so many interesting items.  I would recommend her comfortable home absolutely! Thank you Kelly!
~Lisa

"Kelly has this beautiful place in the middle of the woods with hummingbirds drinking sugar water on the one side and deer picking food on the other side of the veranda.  A really special place with a wonderful and very very friendly host who welcomed us warmly and made us feel like we are home.  We stayed longer than planned and the 3 days there felt like a week of complete relaxation.  Highly recommended?"

"Kelly and her home are, each, an absolute delight.  Kelly, herself, is warm, kind , unassuming, and welcoming.  She's big into nature, sustainability, and community, and has a deeply calming presence.  Her home is nothing short of magical, itself nestled in 53 acres of paradise.  It's cozy, yet sufficiently spacious so as to provide for personal privacy.  It's quiet, serene, and completely peaceful.  Couldn't recommend this more as a place to which to get away, a true retreat.    ~Chris
